13 little-known analytical tools for VKontakte communities

Hi all! I decided to record a short lesson about a useful tool for VKontakte community owners, with which you can analyze the activity of participants. For example, indicators such as activity by hours and days, activity by likes, reposts, comments, analyze posts for activity, identifying those that receive more response.

I learned about this tool at Mikhail Christenko’s free sales training through his VKontakte group. Based on Mikhail’s recommendation, I used it:

1. To analyze your community - to determine the most successful time for publications - days of the week and hours. When most of my audience is active in the group, at this time it is better to publish posts so that they get more views, likes, and reposts.

2. I analyzed the posts to see what people liked and reposted the most. This is a hint on what type of content to focus on in the future in order to gain virality (for example, free traffic through reposts).

3. To analyze competitor communities. If your community is still small, you can analyze several larger groups on your topic. Determine the peaks of activity of the target audience, get ideas for popular content for publications. You can also see what advertising posts and in which communities your competitors are posting.

This tool is available on the Publer.pro service and is called “VK Public Analysis”.

Publer itself is multifunctional. Here you can search and analyze advertising posts, communities, profiles on VK, Instagram, Odnoklassniki, teasers in popular teaser networks and targeted advertising. Select suitable platforms for advertising, borrow ideas for advertising, monitor competitors’ advertising, etc.

The service is paid, but there is also a free demo access with limited functions.

Specifically, in this article I will focus on the analysis of activities in VK communities. 5 requests per day are available here for free.

Below I post a video tutorial with an overview of this tool:

Go to the Publer.pro service and log in through your VKontakte profile.

On the toolbar on the left, go to the “Analysis of VK publics” section.

Paste the link to the community to analyze into the appropriate field and click “Analyze.”

How to analyze the activity of VKontakte community members?

You will see brief information about the group:

1. Name, avatar, number of live participants, percentage of bots (it is determined by some internal algorithms of the service).

2. The total number of posts in the group, ER indicators (the degree of involvement of participants, i.e. the percentage of participants who are active in the form of likes, reposts, comments). If you hover your mouse over this data, you can see explanations and the formula by which this percentage is calculated.

3. Number of advertising posts (posts with links) and community reposts over the past 3 months. All this information is clickable; when clicked, specific posts will open.

How to analyze the activity of VKontakte community members?

The block on the right displays a detailed analysis of activity in the form of visual graphs:

In particular, activity by day of the week. You can see both overall activity and separately by likes, reposts and comments.

For example, from this graph I see that the audience in the community is most active on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Mondays. On Saturday and Sunday, activity drops noticeably. By the way, this can be useful if you are analyzing a public page for placing an advertising post in it; based on the data received, it is worth choosing a day for publication.

From the graph of total activity by hour, it can be seen that the time at which peaks of audience activity occur: 6-7, 11-12, 16-17 hours.

If we filter, for example, only activity by comments, then there are peaks: 6-7, 11-12, 18-20 hours. Actually, it’s worth posting posts during these time periods so that they get more engagement.

How to analyze the activity of VKontakte community members?

When analyzing several target communities, naturally, the peaks will differ, but there will also be overlaps. Peak coincidences can serve as a guide for you when the activity of your target audience on VKontakte is the highest.

In the adjacent “Posts” tab , we can analyze the posts that collect the most response. To do this, we use the appropriate filter - by likes, reposts or comments.

How to analyze the activity of VKontakte community members?

For example, when I analyzed posts in several target communities, including my own, I identified the types that collect the most reposts:

• competitive positions; • posts announcing any events with a call to repost; • posts in storytelling format (where there is an interesting story from life that leads to your offer); • content posts – selections of various services, tools, tips, cases; • posts on current and trending topics in the niche.

The “Growth of Participants” tab shows the dynamics of changes in the number of participants in the group by day, week and month. Information is available in graph and list form.

However, it is not displayed for all groups. For example, for my small community of 450 people. it doesn’t show up; for a group of 3,000 people, my colleagues didn’t want to show up either. And for Mikhail Christenko’s group of 18,500 participants it is available. According to his graph, we see a smooth growth over the last 3 months: from 15 thousand participants in June to 18.5 thousand in September.

The “Purchased Posts” tab can display advertising posts that the community purchases from other public pages. Here, as I understand it, the data is collected from exchanges to which Publer monitoring is connected (in particular, the internal exchange VK, Sociate, etc.).

Why do you need to track activity?

First, let's define what the concept of “Activity in VK groups” means. This includes the following:

  • Likes;
  • Reposts;
  • Comments;
  • Views;
  • Visits;
  • Messages;
  • Subscribe to notifications;
  • Unsubscribe from news;
  • Joining/leaving a group;
  • Adding photo/video/audio files;
  • Create a discussion topic.

Some of the items depend on the personal settings of each community. For example, discussions or messages are not included everywhere, subscribers can not add photos, videos, discussion topics, etc. And accordingly, these indicators will not be displayed in statistics.

Why and how to determine the most active participant in a VKontakte group?

Most often, searching for the most active participant in a VK group is needed to hold competitions, awards and study the target audience. Then it’s easier to create a content plan and change the focus of your community. Plus - competitions and giveaways always attract more people thanks to reposts and the presence of a prize. The best tool to find out an active participant is Top Fan, and it is suitable not only for VK, but also Facebook. The activity rating is formed based on an analysis of likes, reposts and comments in the selected period of time. Many believe that Top Fan is ideal for finding active participants, holding sweepstakes and attracting new users.

The main advantages of the program:

  1. Quickly increase the activity of other participants.
  2. There is a blacklist, you can customize the application for yourself.
  3. The rating is updated every day.

If you don’t want to install additional programs, just go to the statistics section on the community page, go to the line with the most active ones and see them. But remember that in the first case you will have to install the application on your computer and analyze everything there, and in the second you can check the activity from your phone.

Purposes of monitoring group activity – why study?

First of all, it is necessary to track activity in order to understand which audience is most involved in the life of the community (age, gender, geography, etc.). Having this information helps improve the quality of further attracting people. That is, you, as a manager, when setting up a target for your advertising, know by what criteria to look for your target audience.

Secondly, it gives an understanding of which posts get the most impact. This is no less important information. It makes it possible to improve the quality of published content and know in which direction to develop further.

For example, you decided to experiment and publish mostly entertainment content for a week. You wanted to understand how your audience would react to this. After a week (or maybe earlier), you look at the activity statistics and, based on the results, draw appropriate conclusions and take further measures.

Why is it necessary to collect community statistics?

In traffic arbitrage, without analytics, you are nowhere. Especially if you drain traffic from VKontakte communities or promote your group by buying advertising from other public sites. Before purchasing advertising posts, you need to make sure that they are worth the money and that you will not waste your budget on bot sites or sites with non-target audiences. Agree: bots and young schoolchildren will not buy expensive branded items.

It also happens that the VKontakte community is promoted on one topic, and then all the content changes along with the topic, and it would seem that the target audience ceases to be such, and the advertising budget is wasted.

It is impossible to recognize where a good public is and where it is “dead” or simply not suitable for your offer without detailed statistics. Even the number of likes and reposts in a group will not indicate the popularity and activity on the page.

Bottom line

So, we talked about how to track this or that activity in the VKontakte group. Now you know how and why this is done, and you also learned about a new application that helps you get more detailed information about members who have joined or left.

All that is required of you is to use the acquired knowledge in practice. We hope our article was useful to you.
