In the last article, I talked about how the social network VKontakte is not only a means for communicating with your friends and family, but also a storage facility for many files: audio recordings, videos and photo albums. But what should you do if you need to delete photos from your page or group? Is it possible to delete empty albums, “Saved photos”, “Photos from my page”?

Well, in order not to miss anything, I will consider the processes for both a computer and a mobile phone.
#1 Regular folders
If you don’t know how to delete an album in VK, if there are no photos there, then there is nothing to worry about - the cleaning technology is the same for all collections: both with content and without.
- Go to your profile, find the “Photos” block in the Menu on the left;
- Find in , where N is the number of folders;
- Move the cursor over the desired collection, click on the pencil icon that appears;
- Once in the editing window, click on the blue “Delete” button;
- If you are absolutely sure, confirm your intention by clicking the button of the same name again.

How to delete an album with saved VKontakte photos
It's a little more complicated here.

#2 Folder “Photos from page”
The above instructions only work on manually created collections. What about the automatic folders that the system creates, for example, “Photos from my page”, “Saved pictures”, “Photos from the wall”? If you hover the cursor over them, no pencil will appear on the avatar - so how can you delete a VKontakte album created without your participation, and is this even possible in principle?
Yes it is possible. In technology, everything is simple, but in practice, if there are a lot of images in the collections, it is a little more complicated. You can remove such a folder only after completely clearing its contents. But after that, you won’t have to search the Internet for information on how to delete empty albums in VKontakte - they will disappear on their own.
To clear the contents, do the following:
- Go to the desired folder,
- Open the images one by one;
- Under each photo, click on the “Delete” button;
- You are not allowed to open pictures from the wall - just move the cursor over the picture and click on the pop-up cross;
- When you have processed all the files, exit the collection and refresh the page;
- Ready!
But remember that, for example, you can delete saved photos all at once, or selectively, one image at a time.
Recovering deleted pictures
Many users are interested in how to restore the main album if it was sent to the trash by mistake. You will have to immediately upset them, since this social network does not provide such functionality. However, it is still possible to return individual photos back if you do not refresh the page and immediately click on the “restore” option.
If the deletion was made recently, you can try to view the history of the cache browser - it may save the contents of the pages along with the visit history.
The following scenario saved many members of the VKontakte social network. When it seemed that the photos were lost forever, they turned to their friends or started correspondence with them. Often such photos were sent, for example, if they were taken jointly or if a mark was placed on them about who exactly was depicted.
There is an option to use the Google search bot, which makes copies of the pages that we visited earlier. To do this, you need to enter the address of your VK page in the search bar from a computer or tablet. Near the link that leads to the client’s personal profile, you need to find an inverted triangle. Click on the option called “Saved Copy”.

#3 All photo albums at once
As you can see, to delete a photo album on VK, you don’t need much effort - just time and patience. However, if you have managed to collect a lot of collections, accumulate hundreds of images in your system photo folders, you will most likely try to find out how to complete this task “in bulk.”
Unfortunately, we will disappoint you - there is no way to clear all collections at once.
We recommend that you do not fall for tempting offers from third-party web services or auxiliary utilities that are supposedly capable of performing this action. You run the risk of meeting scammers, communication with whom is unlikely to be pleasant.
#4 Photo collection in a group
- To delete an album in a VK group, go to the community and go to the section with uploaded images.
- Proceed as in your own profile - select the desired album, click on the pencil;
- In the new window, click on the delete button;
- It’s even easier to get rid of a photo on your avatar - without going anywhere, hover your cursor over it and click on the cross.
Hiding albums
If you just want to hide the information from prying eyes rather than delete it, there is another option. Move the necessary albums to “hidden” and only you can view them.
Access settings can be found in album editing mode. If you select “only me” in the “who can view the album” drop-down list, it will disappear for all other users. It is recommended to configure all personal information in this way so that it does not fall into the hands of ill-wishers. Better yet, don’t post any of your data on a social network at all. Despite all the modern tools designed to ensure information security that are available in the arsenal of large companies, news of a client base leaked to the Internet every now and then appears in the media.
Instructions for mobile
- To delete an album with photos on VK via a smartphone, go to the application, click on the little man in the circle in the lower right corner of the screen;
- Go to the “Photos” block;
- Select the desired folder;
- Click on the edit button, find the desired key;
In system albums, clear all pictures manually;
- Open each one, click on “Delete”. After complete cleaning, the collection will disappear.
Deleting an empty VK album
In the course of further instructions, we will look at deleting empty albums created automatically by one of the internal applications of the site, however, you can get rid of manually added folders in the same way. Also keep in mind in advance that if there are any images in the album, they will be deleted along with the directory without the possibility of recovery.
Option 1: Website
The easiest way to delete an empty VKontakte album is from the full version of the site on your computer, since only here the full set of functions is provided. At the same time, the instructions are equally suitable for deleting a directory not only on a personal page, but also in any community if you are its administrator.
- Through the main menu or using the panel on your personal page, go to “Photos” - the section with images should open, and not a pop-up window.
To access the album control panel, you need to hover your mouse over the folder preview and left-click on the “Edit” icon. You can also get here if you first open the directory, but this is not always possible.
On the page with the settings of the selected folder in the upper right corner, click the “Delete” button and confirm the action through the pop-up window. As a result, the folder should disappear from the photos section.
This method is the main and only solution for deleting albums. If something doesn’t work out for you, you should double-check the steps and, as a last resort, contact VK support.
Option 2: Mobile application
Initially, older versions of the official VKontakte client for mobile devices did not support many functions of the original website, including deleting photo albums. However, at present this can be done without restrictions, using only standard tools.
- On the right side of the bottom panel, tap the main menu icon and open the “Photos” page through the list that appears. Here you need to find the “Albums” block and click on the “Show all” link.
Scroll through the list below to the desired folder and tap on the cover to go. If you cannot switch to an empty album, you will have to use the full version of the site.
While on the main album page, tap the three-dot button on the top panel and select “Delete” from it.
To complete, confirm your intentions through the pop-up window and the procedure can be completed. Don't forget to check for missing directory after refreshing the album listing page.
As you can see, deleting an empty album in this case is not very different from the desktop version of VKontakte, requiring essentially similar actions. The only important difference is the need to open the album, which may cause some difficulties.
Option 3: Mobile version
Another frequently used version of the social network VK also provides tools for managing albums, including allowing you to delete an empty folder. We will demonstrate the interface of the PC version (in its mobile version), while on the phone the actions are practically no different from the application described earlier.
- Expand the “Photos” section through the main menu of the site and scroll through the page that opens. Here you need to find and select the desired album.
After going to the content in the upper right corner, left-click on the arrow icon. As a result, an additional menu will open where you need to use the “Delete album” link.
To complete the procedure, confirm the operation through the pop-up window of your Internet browser. Additionally, also check the “Photos” section to see if the selected album is available.
This version can be considered the simplest in terms of deleting an album, since it requires a minimum of transitions. However, as in the case of the official mobile client, difficulties may arise with opening the folder itself and, accordingly, with all further steps.
Is it possible to restore them?
To restore a deleted VKontakte album, you will have to work hard and it is not a fact that you will still be able to do this.
- If you deleted a photo manually, after each action a “Recover” link appeared in the place of the former photo. Before updating the page, the manipulations can be easily reversed.
