In conversation

Create a conversation (consisting of more than two participants) and click the paperclip icon in the reply window.

How to conduct on a computer

On a PC, you can also make a poll in VK on the wall or add it to a conversation; in addition, you can create polls in discussions of your community. To do this, you just need to find the “Survey” button:

On a wall (yours or in your community), when you click on the “Add post” window, a menu will open. You need to click on “More” - the required button will be in the list.

In a conversation, you need to click the paperclip icon and select the desired button from the list.

In the community, go to the “Discussions” section and click on “Create a topic”, at the bottom find a button with a diagram - this will be the button for creating a vote.

Creation and design in the desktop version

You can create polls on the wall of your personal page, in conversations and communities in which you are an administrator or have rights to publish posts.

The create button is hidden under the “More” label on the toolbar. Hover your cursor over the inscription and select “Poll” from the pop-up menu.

Now you have a template with fields for questions, answer options, as well as options for customization and backgrounds for design.

In the “Topic” column, indicate the issue that is being put to a vote. You can type an unlimited number of characters, but please note that no more than 93 characters will be displayed in capital letters in the title. Everything that does not fit into the title is automatically transferred to the text of the post.

Even if the topic is shorter than 93 characters, the title will still be duplicated in the text of the post. To remove it, publish the post, and then in editing mode, delete the excess text and click the save button.

The next step after creating a topic is to fill out the answer options. You can add no more than 10 of them, so take this limitation into account when preparing your vote. Each answer option can contain up to 2,000 characters including spaces - for most users this is even more than necessary, and you need to try to stay within this limit.

To publish a questionnaire, you just need to set a topic and offer at least one answer option, but in order to attract users’ attention to your question and collect statistics, you should spend some time on settings and design before publishing.

By default, the background color of the questionnaire is set to plain white. In addition to this, there are 7 more options to choose from. I note that even a simple change in the background color makes the post stand out from other posts. In addition to the color schemes offered by VKontakte, it is possible to upload your own background.

You can use pictures, drawings, photographs, patterns, color fills and any other images in jpeg, gif or png format larger than 510 x 200 pixels.

To use your image, scroll through all the design options offered on VK and click on the plus at the end of the list. In the next window, click on the “Select file” button and select the appropriate image on your computer.

The final stage before publication remains - configuration. The entire setup process comes down to three points that you can tick or ignore.

Anonymous survey. If you check the boxes next to this box, the survey results will show only the number of people who voted for each answer option. If there is no checkmark, the survey will be public - each user who voted will be able to view other voting participants.
Selecting multiple options. This option allows you to vote for one of the proposed answers, or for several. You can even mark all the options at once. Accordingly, if you do not check this item, then users will be able to select only one item when voting.
Limited voting time. In some cases, it is necessary to limit the time during which users can take part in a survey. If this is your case, check the box next to this item and indicate the date and time until which you can influence the voting process. By default, voting will be available for 24 hours. After this time, the survey will be marked as completed and the results will be shown.

At this point, the setup and design process can be considered complete. Click the “Publish” button and wait for the results of collecting public opinion.

You can create a poll directly in a conversation. To do this, hover over the paperclip icon and attach the survey to your message. Setup and design are performed in the same way as when adding a questionnaire to the wall.

There is no function for adding a questionnaire in the dialogue, since creating one when two people are corresponding simply does not make sense. However, if you still want to send the questionnaire by personal message to one specific person, then you can create a vote on the wall and send it to the dialogue.

Group option

Community owners will probably be interested in instructions on how to create a poll in a VK group and how to then stir up the audience. In fact, you shouldn't have any difficulties. As in the situation with a personal profile, your actions directly depend on the device from which you want to conduct the survey.

From PC

The easiest way, oddly enough, is to do a survey in a VK group from a computer. Moreover, there are not very many conditions for holding it, to put it mildly. To do this, you just need to be a community administrator. If this sounds like you, then move on to the instructions.

If you want to conduct a survey on the community wall, go to the input line for a new entry and hover over the word “More”.

In the menu that opens, select the desired item and fill out the fields.

Once everything is ready, click “Publish”.

It’s another matter if you are looking for a way to add a poll to a VK group in a discussion. This can be done both in a new topic and in an existing one.

From phone

It’s a completely different matter how you will have to proceed to launch a survey in a VK group from a mobile phone. Because here an additional condition is imposed: no questioning during the discussion. This option is only available in the full screen version. But there are no problems with the wall.

As you can see, creating surveys is a fairly simple task, so no one should have any problems. However, it is worth giving some recommendations:

To remove any unnecessary answer option, click on the cross to the right of it.
If you want, you can attach video, audio, photo, to do this, click on the paperclip again and select what you want to add.

And by the way, the user quite successfully finds a way out of this problem, for example, adding a screenshot of a valid questionnaire with an offer to participate in the story. Another opportunity to vote in stories is to call friends and subscribers with a similar phrase: “Suggest your question and answer options,” etc.

Tips for creating

It’s not enough to just create a VK voting in a group; it’s much more important to make it bright and interesting - so that as many people as possible take part in it.

Don't forget about the topic of the public. It is unlikely that a survey about the best baby diapers will go well in a group that unites Toyota car owners;
Before you vote on VK, come up with a catchy name for it that will be difficult to pass by (or scroll through);
Pay attention to the design of the block - choose a good background, insert a picture, attach a video, leave a catchy comment;
Think over your answers - they should be succinct, interesting and unambiguous;
If your vote touches on a sensitive topic, it is better to make it anonymous.

Please note that before publishing a survey, you should decide on the purpose of the survey. If you just need to decide for yourself what color to dye your hair, then you shouldn’t bother too much and ask how it is. But if you have a sales page and voting is a way to “boost” your subscribers and attract new ones, it’s worth working hard and coming up with a truly interesting poll.

It doesn’t matter how the questionnaire is created - on a phone or computer, in a group on a wall or in a conversation with friends - the settings will be the same for each of these options, and they will look like this:
