Notifications - when and to whom they come
One of the most useful options on the social network is the VK DR notification, which appears on the desktop in the form of a number next to the bell at the top of the screen. By the number you can judge the number of events. For example, if the number two lights up, this indicates the presence of two events, for example, birthdays.
To view information, just click on the bell symbol in your profile and see additional information on the notification - who exactly was born today, and how old they are. If there are several such holidays, the corresponding number appears, and after pressing the bell, several events are displayed at once. Typically, such notifications work automatically. No additional steps are necessary.
Via phone
In order to view your friends’ birthdays using your mobile phone, you need to follow these steps:
- Go to the application and open the section where your friends are
- Next you need to open the menu that is at the top of the screen by clicking on it
- After this, in the menu that appears in front of you, you need to select the “Birthdays” tab
- This way you can see when your friends have a holiday

How to disable them
If there are too many friends and the user does not want to receive information about birthdays, he has the right to disable the VK birthday reminder. In this case, information with the number of events near the bell will not be displayed. To disable notifications, take the following steps:
- Go to Notifications and click Settings.
- In the Events section, find the Birthdays item.
- On the right side, click on the All button and select Disabled.
Here you can uncheck the Notifications by email section. Also, in the events section, uncheck the Birthdays field. There is no need to save the settings - the system remembers the entered data automatically. In a similar way, you can later re-enable notifications about birthdays or other events.
How to clean?
To delete all notifications in the corresponding VKontakte section from your computer, do the following:
- Open your profile and click on the bell icon;
- In the window that appears, press the “Show all” button;
- The latest news will be displayed. You cannot scroll down this page, like you can scroll down a wall. On average, there are 10-12 latest news items here;
- They are easy to clean one at a time. Hover your mouse over each message and click on the checkmark on the right. In the menu that appears, select “Hide”;
- Ready. Refresh the page. You managed to clear all VKontakte notifications.
If you want to clear notifications in VK from your phone, it’s even simpler:
- Open the application and right in the first window, find the bell icon in the upper right corner;
- Tap on it to go to the list of recent notifications;
- Make a long tap on each entry and select the “Hide” command;
- Do this with the entire list;
- Ready. You were able to clear the notification history in the VK mobile application.
What to do if they don't come
There are situations when the system does not issue alerts and does not receive a notification about a VKontakte birthday. The reasons may be as follows:
- A certain user specified an incorrect date in the page settings. In this case, the person needs to go to the settings panel and set the correct information.
- Birthday information is hidden. DR notifications will not be sent if the person has hidden this information. To correct the situation, the user must enter the date change section and select one of the options - Show date of birth/only day and month. After making changes to VKontakte, save them.
- Privacy settings have been set. The person next to the sentence Who sees the main information of my page has chosen to prohibit the display of information. It is necessary that there be an option with all users, only friends or friends of friends.
- The date of birth has been completely removed. A notification in VKontakte will not be received if the user has completely deleted information about the time of his birth.
- Birthday reminder is disabled in settings. Above we looked at how to remove the VK birthday notification. To restore normal operation, you must return the previous settings.

Disable notifications in the mobile application on your tablet or phone
Launch the application and in the left menu click on the “Gear” icon, which for us means “Settings”
At the next stage, in the settings, click on the “Notifications” section:
All types of notifications are loaded. To disable some of them, simply move the slider to the left. If, for example, you are annoyed by message notifications in a conversation, then click on the “Messages in conversations” item:
Move the slider to the left opposite notifications, and we will no longer receive notifications about new messages in conversations.

Peculiarities
When hiding your date, it is worth considering that even if you hide this information in tinctures, in any case it is still possible to find out your age. The system retains information that will be taken into account when searching for a person. You can completely hide your birthday on VKontakte, but you will have to completely delete its parameters in the “Birthday” line. If you do this, no one will know your age and, naturally, your friends will not receive notification of the upcoming significant date.
Whether or not to hide your birthday and age is a personal matter for each person. Therefore, thanks to the site developers, everyone has the right to choose how to set up their account on the VKontakte social network.
Methods to watch friends’ birthdays on VK
You can find out how old a person is using your phone or computer. Next we will look in detail at how to do this.
From phone
In order to find out all the necessary information about when exactly your friend’s birthday is on VK, you need to install the VKontakte application on your smartphone. You can download it from the Play Market or the App Store. After installing the program, you need to log in to it by specifying your own username and password. After this, you need to click on the icon in the form of three stripes, which is located at the bottom in the corner on the right.
You will find yourself in the main menu, where you need to find an item called “Friends” and click on it.
Now you can see a list of all the people you are friends with.
Next, you need to click on the inscription at the top “Friends” and you will be able to notice various items with applications, relatives, and so on. Click on the first item.
Here you will see the upcoming birthdays that will be in the next month. You will also be shown friends who have a significant holiday today.
Using the application, you will not know birthdays for the next 2-3 months. But there is a service that will help you do this. It's called Kate Mobile. The functions here are the same as in the application described above. After you download the utility, log into your VK profile and in the upper right corner, click on the image in the form of three dots.
After this, a list will appear where you need to select “Birthdays”.
Now you will see a large list of a group of friends who will have a holiday this year. To find out all the information, just scroll back and forth through the list.
From computer
It will be much easier for you to carry out this procedure from a computer than in the version of the application for mobile devices. You need to take a few simple steps:
- Open the “VKontakte” tab called “Friends”.
- You will see a list of friends, and at the top right corner (in the side menu header) you will see an icon meaning Calendar.
When you click on this icon, you will see a page with a calendar. There will be all the marks that may interest you. You can navigate through each month individually using the arrows. You will be able to find out data for the entire month, as well as for the year.
View hidden date of birth
Although many people indicate the date and year of their birth, this is hidden from view. Some people have no such information at all. And for some people it is partially indicated. To view a hidden date, there are two ways:
- 1 way. You need to follow the link: https://vk.com/events.php?act=calendar, and then find the right person. You just need to point at the avatar and you will find out how old the person will be and at what time he has BD.
- Method 2. You need to enter in the “People Search” the name of the user whose holiday date you want to find out. If, after submitting a request, you were shown a large number of people, then you can shorten the search. For example, you can specify the name of the city or other information.
Once only the person you were looking for or several appeared on the list, you just have to manipulate the items.
Turn on birthday reminders
If you want to receive reminders about your friends’ significant date, then you need to activate this function in the page settings. You can find out who was born today in your own profile notifications. To do this, you need to click on the bell icon located at the top of the page. If it is on this day that your friend has a holiday, then the number of notifications will increase by one, and in the window you will see a line with the inscription “Today is the birthday of…”.
When you do not receive such messages, then in the window of the same name you need to click on the “Settings” button.
A window will open where you need to configure your own profile. To do this, you need to go to the tab called “Alerts”. There you need to visit the “Event Type” item. Here, check the boxes labeled “Birthdays.”
