The developers of the social network admitted that there is a certain limit of saved photos in VK! It was this news that blew up the network at the end of the week. Find out what the photo limit is in VK and what happens to “extra” images in our article!
The situation began quite simply, one of the community owners saw an unexpected announcement on his group’s page, instructing him to clean his albums. The man refused to do this, so the system manually deleted the images from the wall and from the albums.
To the logical question: “What was that?”, representatives of the site administration replied that there is a certain limit on photos in VK, or more precisely on their uploads. The maximum number of pictures allowed for posting is in the tens of thousands (thanks to the moderators for such “accurate” information). It’s good that not all communities have such a rich supply. Therefore, most owners of personal profiles have nothing to fear for now. But if the total of pure images approaches a tidy sum, then you shouldn’t be surprised one day when you notice that something is missing. It is quite possible that the moderators got to you. That is, the total number of restrictions regarding uploading and storing photos in VK has increased by one more rule:
- The image size must not exceed 5 MB;
- The maximum number of images posted at a time cannot exceed 200;
- The description of the picture should be 255 characters long;
- The number of comments cannot exceed 2014;
- You can make no more than 50 posts per day;
- You can tag no more than 35 users;
- The size of the main image ranges from 200 by 200 pixels to 2560 by 2048.
- The maximum number of pictures in the “Photos from the Wall” album can reach 32,767 pieces.
- And you can add no more than 100,000 images to one album.
- And finally, a new limit - approximately 50,000 photos (but this is not exact) - this is the maximum for storing on a personal profile page or in a group.
“Why do we need a new restriction?” - you ask. Everything is simple here. Representatives of VKontakte stated that the amount of space on the server is catastrophically decreasing every day, so a decision was made to optimize the processes. In addition, as noted, the developers of the social network do not intervene in the processes on their own, but only after contacting the support service.
How did the story of the community author who was the first to talk about the photo limit in VK end? Nothing at all. His community still works, although without several thousand pictures in albums and on the wall. As the owner of the group notes: it’s a pity that he didn’t track which images fell into oblivion. So it is impossible to say clearly on what principle the system deletes files and what limit the developers have set for saved photos in VK in 2021. Well, let's wait. Maybe representatives of the social network will give more accurate information.
Any VKontakte photo can be saved to the “Saved Photos” album. This photo can then be used for your own purposes. When you add a photo for the first time, an album is automatically created and the picture is placed there. You can't delete the album itself, but you can delete photos from it. Also, your friends can go to your album and view your saved photos.
How to add photos to saved photos using a computer

JPEG
- A very popular format, suitable for both printing photos and displaying on the Internet. Recognized by almost all programs;
- JPEG is a lost format, and this is its main drawback. Every time you open and save an image, the file is compressed and some of the data is lost.
- For example, if you send a photo in JPEG format from your phone via instant messengers (for example, WhatsApps, Viber), they greatly compress them, thereby losing image quality. Of course, this is not a big problem if you plan to view images in a mobile application. But if you want to print photos for a family archive, then it is better to transfer the file from your phone to your computer without compression.
How to delete all saved photos at once?
In order to delete a specific album, for example “Saved Photos”, you must:

Where and how to store your photos so you never lose them?
Reader rating for this article: 4.9

Losing photos can be a real tragedy for anyone. After all, we often capture in photographs those moments that cannot be reproduced again. Situations can be very different - a smartphone was dropped into the water while on vacation, the memory card could no longer be detected, or a phone on which the most valuable information was photos was simply stolen.
If you're still storing your digital photo albums on your computer or smartphone, then it's time to get serious about storing them.
Why is it dangerous to store photos on your smartphone or laptop?
To begin with, I would like to quote some shocking figures from the Kensington company report:
- Every 53 seconds, one laptop is stolen around the world.
- About 70 million smartphones are lost every year
- 52% of devices are stolen in the workplace
In South Korea, according to national police, 1,800 smartphones are lost every day and this number is growing exponentially every year. Most of these smartphones have been stolen. More than half of phones left in a taxi or restaurant are not returned to their owners.
The failure of a smartphone due to water getting inside is the second reason for contacting service after a broken screen. According to a 2015 IDC report, in Western Europe alone, more than 100,000 smartphones fail due to exposure to water or other liquids. And every fifth owner of a smartphone dropped it in the toilet.
In general, the situation is such that storing captured memories on your devices is very unreliable. And if a smartphone/laptop is easy to replace with a new one, then surviving the loss of precious photos will be much more difficult. Therefore, there is only one way out - do not store photos at home.
Clouds are the best place to store your photos
The problem of photo safety can be solved very easily using cloud storage. “Cloud” is special servers (computers) under the supervision of very large and serious companies. Often, information on servers is stored mirrored, that is, duplicated on several hard drives located in different places.
Don't assume that you can protect your data better than a company that's spending billions of dollars on it.
You need to understand that in the event of a serious failure, millions of people will lose their data hosted in the “clouds” from Google or Microsoft. Naturally, this will entail loss of reputation, lawsuits, and a complete loss of trust in other services and products of the company, which will ultimately lead to its collapse. It is almost impossible to imagine this in the case of Google or Miscorosft.
How many smartphones do you think have been lost or how many hard drives have failed worldwide in the last 10 years? At the same time, I don’t remember a single scandal involving the loss of data from Google cloud storage due to the fault of the company itself.
How to configure your smartphone to store data in the cloud?
All you need to do is install a special program that will duplicate in real time all the pictures taken to the cloud (including those that were taken earlier). You can access these photos from any device that has Internet access. You just need to know your username and password (that is, no one will ever see these photos without your permission). Google Photos and Microsoft OneDrive applications . They are available on both Android and iPhone.
Of course, iPhone owners can use the proprietary iCloud , but for a number of reasons I would not recommend this. Firstly, you will always be tied exclusively to Apple technology, since there is no official way to use iCloud on Android. And secondly, Apple likes to charge money for everything. When you purchase a smartphone, you only have 5 GB of cloud storage available to you. If you want more, pay monthly rent!
What is better to choose?
Google Photos is the smartest choice. Microsoft's cloud solution will also cost money if you want to use more than 5GB of storage space. And Google Photos has much more functions than OneDrive and iCloud combined, which we’ll talk about below.
To start using the cloud, you need to install the Google Photos app on your Android or iPhone. When you start it for the first time, you just need to enable the “Startup and synchronization” option:
By the way, please note that in the program you can select Quality of uploaded photos . And at this point I would like to dwell in a little more detail. If we click on the Change settings link (see screenshot above), then we will see two options:
High quality
When you use this option, you will be provided with free unlimited space. That is, you can save thousands of photos and videos, taking up as many gigabytes as you like. It is thanks to this option that Google Photos stands out very favorably from competitors who require a fee for using the cloud.
Updated 01/17/2021 : At the end of 2021, Google updated the terms of service and now only 15 GB of memory . New rules have come into effect for both new and all current users of the service.
What does good quality photo and video mean?
The maximum photo size is 16 megapixels. If, for example, your smartphone has a 20 megapixel camera (the same Huawei P20 Pro), the size of the uploaded photos will be changed to 16 megapixels. Also, Google will apply lossless . A 10 MB photo will change to 1 MB when it lands on Google Photos. At the same time, I repeat, it is almost impossible to see the difference between the original and the compressed versions with the naked eye.
As for video, the maximum resolution is 1080p. That is, when uploading a 4K video to Google Photos, the size will be resized to FullHD.
Original quality
Google will store all photos and videos in the size and quality you upload. No compression or resizing will be applied. In this case, you only have 15 GB of cloud storage available to you (which, by the way, is more than Microsoft OneDrive or iCloud). If you need more space, you will have to pay $3 or more monthly (depending on the tariff and memory capacity).
For 99% of people, high quality will be more than enough, so paying more for the original quality does not make any sense.
Once everything is set up and running, all your photos will be accessible at https://photos.google.com from any device. You will only need to enter your Google account information (this is your Gmail email address and password).
By the way, after synchronization, you can delete all photos from your smartphone, freeing up space on it. Cloud storage will not be affected in any way. Just be careful not to accidentally delete photos from the cloud. Your best bet is to use the Free Up Space feature located in the sidebar of the Google Photos app:
Lots of cool features and benefits!
In fact, Google Photos provides many useful features beyond storing all your photos. All you have to do is just take photos and videos, Google will take care of the rest. For example, sometimes in the morning the program will ask you to plunge into the past and see what happened on this day, say, 5 years ago.
Before using this service, I, like most people, very rarely looked at my photos (this always needed an occasion or reason). Now, at least once a month, the program offers interesting selections of my old photographs.
If you go on a trip, just take new photos, and Google will organize everything into an interesting album with a map of your movements and photos linked to these places:
To relive these pleasant moments in your memory, just open the “Albums” section and select an interesting trip:
The program also has a search for all photos . Just write the word “animals” in the search box and the program will show all your pictures in which animals are found. The program understands “human language”, and therefore you can write anything (“photos of the sea”, “smiles”, “architecture”, etc.).
Another bonus of the service is the built-in editor, which makes it very easy to turn your photo into a real masterpiece:
Moreover, the program has a built-in Assistant that independently creates interesting collages and video presentations from your photos, adds various effects, and then offers you to save the result in your album.
What to do with old photos?
All photos that were on your smartphone before installing the application will be automatically uploaded to the cloud. If part of your personal archive is located on your computer, just download the free official program from Google, which will automatically upload all these photos to your cloud.
I also spent a few hours "digitizing" all my old photos and they are now safely stored in my cloud. For this purpose, there is a special application from Google called Photo Scanner, which allows you to scan printed photos using your smartphone's camera. The convenience of the application is that it automatically crops excess background, removes glare on glossy photo paper and creates a regular digital photo
Elusive Joe
Isn't it dangerous to post all your precious photos on other people's servers!? What happens if they are stolen? Google specifically created this service to collect the maximum amount of data about me and my family!
Yes, the topic of espionage and global conspiracy is very popular today. In reality, unless you work for the intelligence services of your country, are not involved in the development of a secret product, or are not at the top of the charts, only you and your loved ones need your photos. But even if you are a Hollywood star, there is no reason to worry about the privacy of your photos.
The main reason for any data leak (be it photos or information) is the human factor - a too banal password or a targeted phishing attack (say, a fake of the same Google Photos service with a slight change in the address where you enter your username and password, as a result of which this data is transmitted to attackers). Therefore, simple care and a complex password are the best way to protect against such problems.
And I would also like to recall the good old joke about the elusive Joe, whose main character is so similar to most modern people who are terrified of being monitored by Google, Apple or Microsoft:
A town in the Western American steppe. Saloon. Two cowboys, a local and a visitor, are sitting at the table, drinking whiskey. Suddenly, someone rushes down the street at great speed, firing pistols in all directions. In the saloon, no one is paying attention.
Visiting local:
- Bill? - Yes, Harry? -What was that, Bill? “It was Elusive Joe, Harry.” “Why is he called Elusive Joe, Bill?” “Because no one has caught him yet, Harry.” “Why hasn’t anyone caught him yet, Bill?” “Because no one has needed him for a hundred years, Harry.”
